Hyeok Kwon

VIOLONCELLO

Korean-American cellist Hyeok Kwon joins The Florida Orchestra as a section cellist in the fall of 2026. Previously, he served as Principal Cellist of the Augusta Symphony (2024–2026) and as a member of the cello section with the Hilton Head Symphony Orchestra (2024–2026). He has also performed with the Sarasota Orchestra, Jacksonville Symphony, Houston Grand Opera, Aspen Festival Orchestra and Savannah Philharmonic.

Hyeok attributes much of his early success to his first teacher, Donna Rogers, who recognized his potential at age 10 and provided him with lessons pro bono throughout his school years. He earned his Bachelor of Music degree at the Eastman School of Music under David Ying of the Ying Quartet. He continued his studies at Indiana University, where he pursued a Master of Music degree and a Performer’s Diploma while serving as an Associate Instructor for Eric Kim.

He has participated in music festivals including the Aspen Music Festival on fellowship, Sarasota Music Festival, New York String Orchestra Seminar and the National Symphony Orchestra Summer Music Institute.

Hyeok has performed in major venues around the world including Carnegie Hall, the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts and the Seoul Arts Center. In 2013, he performed at the U.S. Presidential Inaugural Luncheon. He has collaborated with internationally acclaimed artists such as Joshua Bell, Daniel Hope, members of the Pacifica Quartet and others. Hyeok is a founding member of the Radix Cello Quartet and, in 2018, created The Tallowood Concert Series, serving as Artistic Director until 2020.
