Mendelssohn’s Violin Concerto: Masterworks
Effervescent folk melodies that will move you. Australian-American soloist Geneva Lewis makes her TFO debut in a sparkling masterpiece, Mendelssohn’s Violin Concerto, a beloved star of the repertoire since it premiered more than 175 years ago. The program begins with William Dawson’s only symphony, the Negro Folk Symphony, a riveting work largely based on African-American spirituals. The concert wraps up with a showstopper, George Enescu’s Romanian Rhapsody No. 1, an orchestra showpiece that taps into the traditional Romanian folk songs he heard as a child. Nicholas Hersh conducts.
