Copland’s Appalachian Spring: Masterworks
Michael Francis conducts an American masterpiece, Copland’s Appalachian Spring, showcasing a distinctly American sound: “Copland saw how the power of music can unite a country. He created an open, pioneering sound that tapped straight into the psyche and soul of the American people.” The program features Grammy-nominated baritone Jubilant Sykes performing American spirituals that highlight our African-American heritage. The concert concludes with Dvorak’s Slavonic Dances, celebrating the beauty and power of a culture.
Bonus! For every Masterworks concert, Michael Francis has personally chosen a surprise “mystery piece” to enhance the live experience. What will it be this weekend?
