Program
Celebrate the power of women. Rimsky-Korsakov’s Scheherazade shimmers with intrigue as the clever sultana saves her own life through storytelling. Romanian British pianist Alexandra Dariescu – a champion of female composers – performs Clara Schumann’s Piano Concerto, which she finished by age 16 at a time when women simply did not compose. Rounding out the program is Bartok’s The Miraculous Mandarin Suite, a thrilling adventure into the dark side of power. All led by guest conductor JoAnn Falletta, music director of the Buffalo Philharmonic Orchestra, a multiple Grammy winner and a pioneer for women in conducting.
